6 months ago I felt pretty calm about all this. I used Claude every day, it made me faster, and I could still point at plenty of things it couldn’t do without me holding its hand. I do backend work for a logistics company. Over the last couple of months our product manager started opening small PRs herself. Not huge features, but real ones, a new filter on a report, a CSV export, a fix to a notification email. They get reviewed like anyone else’s and most of them are fine. A friend of mine who does marketing built a small booking tool for her sister’s salon over two weekends. It takes payments. It works. She has never written code in her life and she didn’t think it was a big deal. Honestly I don’t think the models got that much better since the summer. What changed is who is using them and what for. The people who used to wait for me are just doing it. I’m not panicking. I still have plenty to do and the hard parts are still hard. But the part of my job that was “I’m the person who can make the PC do the thing” is clearly shrinking, and I don’t know yet what replaces it… submitted by /u/FlatStill2540
