As a 25M who has been with a wonderful woman for 7 years, the question that has been circling our minds is when to get engaged. I know the decision is ultimately up to us, but I personally would like to do it as soon as possible. I know I want to spend my life, all of it (or as much as I can get), with her. We have both been ready, but the circumstances of our lives have made it hard to feel socially acceptable to propose. This is in large part due to my year of unemployment after graduating and both of us still live with our parents. I finally managed to get a shit job that pays barely anything, but it’s something. My self perceived fatal flaw is that I am chronically lazy. In part to blame for my recently diagnosed ADHD, but I am getting my shit together even if it is slowly. Now the proposal is a serious prospect, we both know and have talked about it and our expectations. It would be private, maybe with family, and a nice ring. Simple. I would like some help or to hear your thoughts regarding what steps you took to getting engaged. How the hell do I do this? Some advice regarding what to say to my future in laws would be helpful too. She made it clear she doesn’t want me to ask for permission, but they would appreciate a heads up.
