I’m quite new to the world of coding and development, I use Claude at home for coding web-apps/mods, and at work for automation and Python stuff. I was surprised when I requested for Claude on my work PC that IT just installed Claude Desktop without any sandboxing. Like, it just has full access to what I have. Granted, user permissions prevent me from doing major harm to the PC itself, but if it saw fit it could delete everything in my work folder and any share folder I have edit access to. It probably won’t, but it could . I checked with some other staff including Software teams and they had similar arrangements… Which just seems odd. My impression of IT security was working from “minimum access” like I probably don’t need Claude accessing all my PC or shares if I just need it to work on this or that yk? I currently only run Claude Desktop (on my personal PC) in a Linux VM, but like, it’s kinda slow to spin-up and hogs performance from my pc, I’m sure there’s better ways to do it. submitted by /u/Eastern_Doughnut_222
