I’m 17M, and I have a female friend whom I used to talk to quite a lot. Things were pretty normal between us until about a month ago. She made some new friends recently, which I have absolutely no problem with. Everyone has their own social circle. But gradually, our conversations started becoming less frequent. Her replies became shorter, and sometimes she’d take hours to respond. I brought this up with her once, and she admitted that she wasn’t putting in enough effort and that it was her fault. She also said that I could message her whenever I wanted and she’d reply. But honestly, I don’t want to be the only person initiating conversations every single time. I’ve tried maintaining this friendship for the past month because I genuinely value it. At the same time, I feel like I’m holding on to something that the other person isn’t putting the same effort into anymore. What’s confusing is that if she messages me tomorrow and starts talking normally again, I’d probably respond just as happily as before. I don’t hate her, and I don’t expect her to prioritise me over her other friends. I just miss how things used to be. It’s strange how a friendship can still exist, but no longer feel the same. submitted by /u/Background-Regret_
