Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some honest feedback from people familiar with the Swiss job market. I recently received an offer for a Dentalassistentin Praktikum at dental clinic in Zürich. However, the proposed salary feels extremely low to me, and I am unsure whether this is normal for a Praktikum in the dental field or borderline illegal. My background:

  • Qualified dentist from Latin America(Licentiate degree in Odontology, 5 years + 1 year clinical practice)
  • 27 years old
  • B permit I am fully aware that my dental degree from a third country is not directly recognized in Switzerland. That said, based on my research, Dentalassistentin is not a regulated profession, so legally I should be allowed to work in that role without a Swiss EFZ. Despite this, I have struggled to get interviews for Dentalassistentin roles, so I decided to try the Praktikum route to at least enter the industry and gain Swiss experience. I was recently invited by this clinic, did trial days, and finally received their offer. The (what I found abusive) offer: 100% pensum (45 hours/week), 600 CHF per month Honestly, I found this shockingly low. It barely covers my health insurance. Still, during the conversation I stayed polite, and said I would review the documents. Now I am hesitating. On one hand, I don’t want to undervalue myself after 6 years of dental education and clinical experience, even if is from a foreign country which I come to learn is sadly worth nothing here. On the other hand, I am aware the Swiss job market is tough (and tougher at the moment), and I don’t want to miss a necessary entry point. My questions to you: • Is 600 CHF/month normal for a Dentalassistentin Praktikum in Zürich? • Is this considered acceptable in the industry, or a red flag? • Do you believe this kind of Praktikum would realistically help me get a proper Dentalassistentin job later? • What would you do in my position? My long-term goal is to get my diploma recognized and work as a Dentist. I am currently in the process of homologating my Diploma in Spain, to later start an indirect recognition in Switzerland. Unfortunately, this is taking over 2 years now. I am even consideran starting a new carecer and do a Master in something else. Any honest feedback or advice is very Welcome. Thanks a lot! 🙏🏻 submitted by /u/AbejaQueen
