The one with the Indian dude called Trump and Trump said he had to invite the women hockey team too or he’d be impeached, and everybody laughed. I’m non-American and a woman. I don’t get the joke but maybe because I’m not American? The women team won gold medals so of course they’re also invited to the White House. I also don’t get the severe backlash. I’m mostly confused about the sentence itself cause I thought most Olympic gold medalists is usually invited by President to be congratulated for bringing pride to the nation? What’s with the impeach thing and why is that funny? Is it a bad American joke or is it more like a man joke that I as a woman can’t understand? Personally, our president has some similarities with Trump especially in the category of having history of human right violations. As much as I dislike my current president for what he did to my ethnic group back in the 90s, he’s still our president. And as a President, his job is to congratulate and give appreciation to winning athletes. Not doing so will be seen as a disrespect or a slight towards the athlete, but it definitely won’t warrant an impeach. The athletes also wouldn’t turn away the invitation since it will also be seen as arrogance or disrespecting the nation, not just the president. Help me understand the joke and backlash. P.s. also who’s the Indian dude, someone in Trump’s cabinet? I cringed hard when he said “I fckn got it boss” to Trump. submitted by /u/daysof_I
