Something I keep noticing that doesn’t really get talked about here. AI image generation is forking into two lanes that barely overlap anymore. First lane is the creative/artistic stuff. That’s what dominates the conversation, people making surreal art, concept pieces, stylized visuals that lean into looking ai generated. Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, DALL-E, all that. Success here means aesthetic quality and pushing boundaries. Second lane is commercial content production and it’s growing way faster than people realize. Creators and brands using ai to pump out what looks like normal photography for social media, ecommerce, marketing. Success here is literally the opposite, the image should NOT look like ai made it. Consistency and photorealism matter, creative novelty doesn’t. The tools are diverging along the same lines. General purpose generators keep optimizing for creative flexibility while a whole separate category of platforms has popped up that only care about things like face preservation across hundreds of outputs and social media ready formatting. Completely different engineering priorities. The commercial lane stays invisible by design. When it works you just see what looks like a regular instagram post or product photo. No one’s putting watermarks on it or announcing ai made this, it’s just content produced at a fraction of what a photoshoot costs.
