Today my wife and I were out for a walk, and something strange happened. We were crossing at a pedestrian crossing near a roundabout. As far as I remember, there were no traffic lights there. I’m certain that I gave quick glance And checked the lane and even noticing a bus. I judged that the approaching car was still far enough away for us to cross safely. After we crossed, a car suddenly stopped in front of us and the driver(60+ age) got out. He started accusing us of not stopping and checking for traffic before stepping onto the crossing. He said he was “blindsided” by headlights from oncoming traffic and claimed he could have hit us. What made it more uncomfortable was that he mentioned twice that “we are black” and that he couldn’t see us. I’m not sure what he meant by that. I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt as my wife is fair skinned and he could have lost it in translation, but it felt awkward. This could go either ways, he could be kind enough to educate us or passive aggressive to shift the blame. Now I’m confused about the actual rule. As far as I understand, at a pedestrian crossing without traffic lights, pedestrians are allowed to cross and drivers are expected to slow down and yield. Of course, pedestrians should also check for safety before crossing. So who would be considered right in this situation? Are pedestrians required to wait until cars fully stop, or is it enough to judge that it’s safe to cross? At end, I feel these are driving basics and consider him a danger in road. If Would appreciate some clarification. submitted by /u/Scared_Bottle6398
