There’s two elements to not understand the code you ship. There’s understanding of the underlying concepts (eg. caching, server side component, DOM), and understanding why in this pull request, author/AI decided to make that architectural choice. I think the latter isn’t that important. However, that fundamental knowledge of a framework, or good design patterns helps a lot with the speed of AI-assisted development, as you can better arrive to the correct plan, and you don’t accumulate the debt.
